Yes, you are correct if you are not divorced you do not need the court order. First, recheck your filing status in the Federal "My Info" section. Once Married Filing Joint is confirmed, return to the ID state return and click through confirming/answering questions as needed to arrive at the page titled "Changing Qualifying Children Per Court Order for Idaho Credits of Divorced Parents?"

Be sure to select "NO" on that page. Verify the names and months on the next page and if you select "Yes" only if you wish to donate your credit.

Continue through the remaining pages confirming/answering as needed.

Thank you, DMarkM1, for taking the time to respond.

I went back and confirmed we are filing jointly, and re-entered our answers under the state portion as you suggested. These are the same answers I entered initially. We get a message at the end from Smart Check Results that everything looks good.

Unfortunately under the Review section, it says there is 1 detail to review under completecheck. It takes me to a page with an option to "Continue without Fixing" or "Fix Idaho Return". When I click on Fix Idaho Return it then informs me of the ineligibility to e-file due to the Court Order mentioned above. If I click Continue without Fixing, it takes me back to the completecheck screen, then to a screen where it says there are a few details to finish up. Then it shows my final numbers. When I click continue from that screen, it takes me to a blank screen...no text or buttons to click. It still shows the navigation panel on the left side of the screen, and at the bottom it still has the links to License agreement, Privacy, Security, Cobrowse, and Give Feedback.

This feels like a software problem. Happy to take screenshots or provide a video if that helps. Thanks again for helping!

I cleared everything in my cache and updated my version of Chrome. I went through all of the answers again and attempted to e-file. Unfortunately the problem persists exactly as before.

I went ahead and filed my Federal return. In the meantime I'm not sure where to go from here with State. I really appreciate you working with me on this problem.

I am getting the same error with my Idaho tax return. It must be a software bug, I have gone back several times to recheck my selections and it is telling me I have to mail them in with the court order attached.

I just had a nice lady help me with this issue. If you go re-open your state return and click on the File button up at the top left hand corner and select 'remove state return'. You should get another dialog box to confirm you want to delete the Idaho return. You basically have to remove the state return and then start over with it. This worked for me, I hope it works for you! I was able to get all the way to the end and efile, without duplicating my federal efile.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but maybe it will help others.

There is yet another bug in turbotax. I hit the same court order issue on Idaho grocery credit. I finally tracked it down that I only listed dependent care expenses for 2 of my 3 children. When I get to Idaho dependent info screen it pre populates to 2 instead of 3 even though the form itself lists all three dependents. Changing this number to 3 appears to cause some conflict in the software which breaks efile.

I was able to fix the issue by going back to the federal forms and explicitly listing 0 dependent care expenses for my 3rd child. Deleted the Idaho return, and when I redid it voila it pre populates 3 for my dependents on the state tax questionnaire and everything now works great on efile.

How can this bug be fed back to intuit? There seems to be no way to report bugs without calling and sitting on the phone….no thanks. Really starting to lose patience with the poor quality of TurboTax.

THANK YOU. I just spent 45 mins redoing my answers sure I couldn't get past this bug in the program. Explicitly stating $0 in childcare expenses for any children without them then restarting my state return fixed this same issue for me!
