TurboTax show recent files but does not let me select a subfolder where I keep all my past tax file like it used to. This seems to be a software problem that needs to be fixes.

Did you move the file to the directory where you want to keep it?

If you do, and then open it in TurboTax, the program should default to that directory the next time you start the program.

That is a screwed up answer from Intuit. The program should facilitate saving the file in any suitable folder. Should not need to exit the program to move the file. Amateur hour. What is going on?

Maybe we cannot trust this software company anymore.

The tax data file can be saved anywhere you want.

Just click on File at the top left of the TurboTax desktop program screen. Click on Save As...

The default location for saving the tax data file will be listed. All you need to do is change the location to where you want and save the file. Simple and no change from all the other prior year TurboTax programs.

Try it. The save dialogue window does not list the subfolders or provide an easy way to get to them.

Yep. The folder selector is completely missing in TurboTax for 2023.

And as of March 2026 this bug is STILL in the 2025 version of TurboTax.

I thought it might be a security permission issue, as it appeared right around the time MacOS added GateKeeper. So I tried granting TurboTax Full Disk Access. It did not solve the problem.

My workaround was to open a finder window to the parent of the folder I wanted to save in, then drag and drop that folder into the save folder location field. It updated with the correct folder name and my document did save there.

Intuit, this bug on the Mac version is 4 years old now! Seriously, nobody's gotten around to a 4 year old bug when EVERY YEAR many of us save our new return into a new year's folder? Please finally address this.
