This says you can use Windows 10. You can't use 8.1 anymore.

And next year in 2023 we do our 2022 returns. So it will be the Turbo Tax 2022 program. Unless you are really asking about doing a 2023 return in 2024. That we won't know for a year from now.

I am using the CD/Download TurboTax software for 2022 in Windows 10. It works fine.

The tag below your question says you are using TurboTax Online. You can certainly use TurboTax Online for your 2022 tax return in Windows 10 (as long as you have an up-to-date web browser).

As VolvoGirl said, the tax returns that we file in early 2023 are for 2022. We won't know the requirements for TurboTax for 2023 tax returns until near the end of 2023.

I have W10 desktop and it's working fine. any windows OS 7 or above should work with the online versions

Just received TTax Premier 2022 CD ordered via Sam's Club this past Black Friday weekend. Fails to install per popup due to "Windows no longer supporting Windows 8.1". Actually, Windows 8.1 doesn't go non-support until late January 2023. Interesting there is no mention of TTax 2022 no longer being supported for Windows 8.1 in any of the emails I have received from the TurboTax folks leading up to and including Black Friday 2022. Very disappointing..no problem getting the TTax Sales mechanism going 100+ percent but can't get the Customer Support mechanism going except to rely on you buying, and trying to install the CD product. I suspect there are going to be lots of unhappy TTax customers who will be unable to return an opened TTAX 2022 product or being forced to upgrade to Windows 10 (which goes non-support 10/14/2025) or Windows 11 ( which for most users also minimally requires a Trusted Platform Module ( TPM) hardware upgrade). I was an early adopter of TTax but all good things must come to an end.

2022 Desktop System Requirements

TurboTax CD/Download 2022-2023 System Requirements

If your computer is too old and you can't install the Desktop program you can switch to the Online version and transfer from last year. You have to pay for online separately. If you already bought the Desktop CD/Download program you need to get a refund.

The Online web version is only good for one account and one return. You can log in and access your return from any computer. You only can see the forms after you pay and download the pdf. And you might need to upgrade to a higher version to enter different kinds of income. And you can add LIVE service or Full Service for expert help. In Online the fees are to prepare the federal and state returns (State is a separate charge) whether you efile or print and mail. Efiling is free and included. You can Transfer from last year's Desktop program.

If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year

If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2022 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

most 8.1 PCs can upgrade to Windows 10, but probably not to Windows 11 because of BIOS issues.
