TurboTax 2022 Support for macOS 13 Ventura

Can anyone conclusively confirm or deny that TurboTax for Mac 2022 will or will not run on the current version of macOS?

Apparently, the current version is macOS 13.0.1 Ventura released on November 9, 2022:

I know of no reason that it would not. The system requirements say Mac Big Sur or later.

Yes, I read that in this thread on system requirements in which you referred to the official page on system requirements.

But, as @Paul505 pointed out in that thread, that page does not list macOS 13 Ventura among in its list of Specific macOS versions, which includes only:

macOS Big Sur 11
macOS Monterey 12

Why doesn’t it also include macOS 13 Ventura?

Only beta versions are available now and they are far from finished and complete. Since that OS is new, it must be tested. There will be many updates and changes prior to the start of filling season in January.

Are you sure? I'm not subscribed to any beta testing programs. I believe MacOS Ventura is fully released to the Mac user general public and is up to version 13.0.1.

I have updated my computer and many other third party apps are already posting their Ventura compatible versions. I'm very reluctant to purchase TurboTax for the 2022 tax year until the Intuit system requirements page adds macOS Ventura 13 to the "Specific MacOS" list as extracted from the Intuit website a few minutes ago:

Operating Systems

macOS Big Sur 11 or later (macOS Catalina 10.15 not supported)

Specific macOS: macOS Big Sur 11, macOS Monterey 12

It is not called a beta test. It is an unfinished early release - we refer to it as 'beta". Turbotax does this to compete with other tax software - Buy early and lock the customer in. The software will require a series of updates before Jan when filing season opens.

The only way to find out if the current release will work with Ventura is to try it - should unless Ventura really broke something.

Turbotax 2022 is just showing me a spinning ball for 5 minutes then opens and that is after Ventura 13.0.1

I have done one or 2 Ventura updates. and one Turbo Tax update.

I called Apple and Ventura is not Beta any longer.

TurboTax just sux on a MAC

FWIW, I took a chance and purchased and downloaded TurboTax Home and Business for Mac yesterday. I'm running MacOS Ventura 13.0.1 and I was somewhat apprehensive about whether TurboTax would install and run properly. It installed and launched without any issues and I was able to successfully transfer information from two 2021 TurboTax returns into two new 2022 returns.

I don't know if the various problems some Mac users are experiencing running TurboTax for Mac on Ventura are related to which chip they have or system configuration. Mine has an M1 Max.

If you look at the rest of this thread, we’ve already discussed these requirements. And despite the requirements saying “macOS Big Sur 11 or later” back in November, @macuser_22 posted:

I just spend 3 hours with Intuit Support the download version does not work with MacOS Ventura 13.1, I also tried with MacOS Monterey 12.6 same issue when it tries to load the file it shows the following message,

"TurboTax can't be updated when it's running from a read-only volume like a disk image or an optical drive. Move TurboTax to your Applications folder and relaunch it from there."

I was running the file from the Application folder , I also tried running it from the Download folder same result no matter which folder you use

It seems that the image is constructed as a CD and not a download , when you open Get Info on the Mac_TurboTax_Download.dmg file and expand the Sharing Permissions the privilege I set to read & write for all users and still has the same issue so is a bad file not sure what they going fix it but a shame I have all my taxes in a my MAC if some one from Intuit wants to contact me at [email address removed] be happy to show them the problem.

I’m sorry that you are having trouble updating your copy of TurboTax on a Mac.

I suspect that you are running TurboTax from a disk image file. In other words, it sounds like you downloaded a file that ends in .dmg and you double clicked on that file, which opened a folder containing the TurboTax application. And finally, you double clicked on this TurboTax application within the widow that opened after double clicking on the disk image file (ending in .dmg). The TurboTax application tried to update, but can not do so because it is running within the disk image and that’s why you got the error you mentioned.

If this is what you did, then the solution is very easy; you simply must remove the TurboTax application from its disk image by following these instructions.

After mounting the disk image (by double clicking on the file ending in .dmg) a window will open containing the TurboTax application; it probably also contains a folder (with a little curved arrow on the bottom left corner) called “Applications”:

If you see such a folder, simply drag the TurboTax application into this Applications folder (alias) and the TurboTax application will be automatically copied and installed on your local hard drive in its Applications folder.
If you don’t see this folder, that’s not a problem. In this case simply drag the TurboTax application out of the window and drop it anywhere on your desktop or any folder in your hard drive. It’s best if you drag it into the Applications folder of your hard drive but it will work from just about anywhere you drag it.

After you’ve dragged the TurboTax application out of the window containing the mounted disk image, close that window.

Now, look closely at your desktop. You should see an icon representing the disk image. It probably says something like “TurboTax” under an icon that looks something like a disk drive. Once you find this icon, right-click on it and choose the command “Eject” (Another way of “right-clicking” is to hold down the Control Key while clicking as normal.)

Now double click on the TurboTax application within your hard drive’s Applications folder (or wherever else you put it). Go ahead and follow the update instructions and now it will save the update without error.

Thank you ! your instructions were very clear it works

The trick is to drag the Turbotax Icon inside the window that opens with you mount the .dmg image , my mistake was dragging the .dmg image from my desktop to the applications folder and it was copy as .dmg image and produced the error
