1. i am stuck in tt hell

2. i tried using online tt so i can import my crypto trades but then it gets hung up trying to upload my TT tax2020 file.

3. TT cust support says tax2020 won’t upload bcz i did NOT submit/file my tax2020 taxes online-i missed the online filing deadline so had to send returns via snail mail.

4. QUESTION: can i just file my TT tax2021 online w a crypto net gain/or loss entry AND THEN SNAIL MAIL my individual crypto trades in just a CSV printout?

5. if i can do what i described in bullet #4. will this delay my refund until the IRS rcvs my snail mailed crypto trades in a CSV printout?

6. how i even send a hard copy? just a cover letter or?

3. TT cust support says tax2020 won’t upload bcz i did NOT submit/file my tax2020 taxes online-i missed the online filing deadline so had to send returns via snail mail. If you used any of the TT programs for 2020 (even if you did not efile the return) you can still transfer the .tax2020 file into the online 2021 program ... follow the screen instructions when you start a new return.

Yes ... you can enter a summary in the program then send the detailed report by mail ... again follow the screen instructions when you indicate you will use this option.

5. if i can do what i described in bullet #4. will this delay my refund until the IRS rcvs my snail mailed crypto trades in a CSV printout? No it will not delay the process of the efiled return.

6. how i even send a hard copy? just a cover letter or? If you indicate you will use the summary entry option then you will attach the form 8949 like detail with the form 8453 that will be provided in the filing instructions ... save a PDF with the worksheets and carefully read the screen instructions in the interview.

re#2-you are incorrect - the VERY FIRST thing i did and i tried now 10 diff times is start w a COMPLETELY new online return -notjing uploaded or eve typed in prior to this- and when i FOLLOW upload tax2020 return instructions the upload just times out. NOTHING from MY TAX2020 GETS TRANSFERred to online TT 2021.

For step 4 put a heading with your name SSN and tax year.

Also you are supposed to rearrange the columns into the manner of Form 8949.

Only SELL transactions are to be detailed.

so i uploaded my crypto into TT 2021 online and using that tt created 1099 to manually transfer to my desktop tt2021 - so many inconsistencies between what the tt online and tt desktop can/cannot do.

BTW I HAD no prob transferring my tax2020 info to my DESKTOP TT2021 program. but tax2020 will not transfer to online tt2021. so frustrating.

I just tried it. It transferred my 2020 TEST return (not filed) into 2021. Where do you get stuck or error? Did you get these screens? Go to Tax Tools - Tools

THEN Choose File it should open to your computer. Find your 2020 .tax2020 file

THEN IT COMPLETED. All the blue lines went across

i see EXACTLY the same screens as you EXCEPT THE LAST ONE INDICATING ALL THE TRANSFERS occurred.

my upload gets lock into a msg saying it is uploading - then it takes so long tt logs me out of my account but when i re-log back in, nothing has transferred - not even my name

Must be something with your computer. Have you tried rebooting and clearing your cache, cookies, etc?

then after about 5 or 10 mins I get this but when I re-log in - there is NOTHING transferred.

This is the only other thing I can think of. Here's an idea. Do you still have 2020 installed? Try opening 2020 program and see if you can get your 2020 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. Then save it again with a name and place you can find. Go to File - Save As. Then start a new 2021 return and transfer from the 2020 file.

what if i pay tt to do my taxes ? what will they do if all i have is a working pdf of taxes for tax yr 2020?!

Huh? I though you had the data file ending in .tax2020? You need to save your tax returns and back them up.

You must review Form 8949.

Details via snail mail (e.g. spreadsheet) must be in the manner and form of Form 8949 and contain the same information.

Gain/loss on Form 8949 is in Column (h).

Probably meaning only sales are reported, not purchases you did not sell. Of course you need all the details for each sale. Here is form 8949

yea and the tax2020 file ISN"T uploading so my question is what if I pay TT to do my taxes and they can only access my 2020 tax year taxes via my PDF file.

you're not reading my msg correctly. Why am I going to post a crap load of posts tied to trying to upload my "TAX2020 file" then tell you or anyone else that all I have is a PDF file. I am fully aware of the diff between a PDF and a tax2020 file.

The prior year .taxfile is transferred into the next tax year's program ... it is not imported or downloaded.
