Hi garydyck, Great idea to apply your 2021 tax refund to your 2022 taxes! If you have not already filed your 2021 tax return you can select in the tax software you are using to prepare your 2021 return, and amount of refund to be applied to 2022 will be reported on your 2021 Form 1040 line 36.

I hope you find this helpful!

@ garydyck

I'm a fellow user and can help you get to the right place. If you need the steps, I've provided them below.

If you are currently preparing a 2021 return (not yet filed) in a 2021 TurboTax product and need help navigating to the place to enter the 2021 overpayment (refund) to apply to 2022 taxes, here are the steps. I've provided steps for Online TurboTax and the desktop version (CD/download).

In Online TurboTax go to the left menu column and click on the Federal tab.

Then at the top click on the subtab Other Tax Situations.

If presented, go through screens of the "uncommon tax situations" interview.

You eventually should get to a summary screen that says "Your uncommon tax situations" and has a topic "All uncommon situations."

Scroll down the uncommon tax topics to "Additional Tax Payments" and click Show More to expand.

That topic will expand, and you will see a subtopic "Apply Refund to Next Year."

NOTE: Any 2021 state overpayment (if applicable) that you wish to apply to next year's state taxes will likely be in your state interview toward the end.

For desktop TurboTax:

Federal taxes tab (Personal tab in Home and Business).

Then choose subtab Other Tax Situations.

Scroll down to topic Additional Tax Payments.

Choose subtopic Apply Refund to Next Year and click Start or Update.
