The system believes that you had a PPP loan for whatever reason.

Try this if you get stuck on the PPP loan page and cannot get past it, the easiest way out is to simply click to another section of your return without answering any questions or filling in any data.

It may be that the net income for the landscaping business is $0. That can happen if you add an asset and choose the section 179 depreciation option. In that case, just enough of the section 179 depreciation would be taken until the income of the business was reduced to $0, assuming the section 179 deduction was more than that.

The information for Box 20 Code AJ is reported separately to allow the partners to use the information as needed to complete Form 461. If you're not planning to file that form, you don't need to enter Code AJ. Or you can add the two numbers together. But TurboTax provides multiple lines for Code AJ to allow you to report each amount separately. Note that in most cases, TurboTax doesn't use the information from Box 20.

No, say "no" to that option. Also, when asked if you have a profit motive for the income, respond with "no". Also, just put down that you only receive the income in the current year when asked. Otherwise, the income will show up as self-employment income, which it is not.

Yes, the payment will lower your penalty automatically, but you do need to enter the payment and date you paid it if you have not yet done so.

If you need to enter the payments you made, you can do so by navigating to Deductions and Credits, Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Estimated Tax Payments > Federal estimated taxes for 2025 (Form 1040-ES).

If you are using TurboTax online, it is listed in expenses. If you don't see it immediately, keep selecting the button that says add expense categories. You will eventually see a category labeled "Health insurance".

If using TurboTax Software, look for an expense category labeled "Insurance Payments". You would enter that here.

It depends on what the money was for. If you are not self employed and this is not considered wages from an employer you can add the income using the steps below.

It's important that you made the appropriate selections so that TurboTax does know that it was not self employment income.

Open your TurboTax Online/Mobile or TurboTax Desktop tax return

Search (upper right) > type 1099misc > click the Jump to... link

Begin your entry of the 1099-MISC.

It's important for you to select 'None of these apply" and then you should also select the following:

'No' on the screen 'Did the '____' involve work that's like your main job?'

'No' on the screen 'Did the '____' involve an intent to earn money?'

This will report the income without any business/self employment activity and it will show up on Form 1040, Line 8 (From Schedule 1, Line 8z).

Continue to complete this section.

Please update if you have additional details or questions and we will help.

Since qualified foster care payments, including respite care stipends from a state or authorized agency, are generally excludable from gross income under IRS Section 131, here are the steps for reporting a related 1099-NEC to ensure it is treated as non-taxable income:

Report the income listed on the 1099-NEC on Schedule C.

Immediately offset the reported income as non-taxable.

For the offset description, use the required designation, often described as "1099-NEC: Section 131(a) exclusion of qualified foster care payments".

After you enter the Form 1099-MISC, you will see several questions that determine how the income is reported. When asked if you had a profit motive for the income, you need to answer "no". When asked if the income is earned only in the current year, you need to answer "yes". You also need to indicate that the income is not associated with your main job. If you do that, the income will not be treated as self-employment income.

Re: TurboTax doesn't show QBI for second sole proprietorship

You have to designate the income from the business as qualifying for QBI treatment, it is not automatic. You will need to edit the landscaping business entries and after you review the income and expenses, you will see the option to designate the income as qualifying for QBI treatment. Also, you can use the help icon on the top right of your screen to enter "QBI" and you will see a "jump to" option that will take you to the QBI entry screen.
