@Rookie1234 check Form 8606 in your return (on TT Desktop in Forms mode or PDF; with TT Online it will be in PDF for your return available after you've paid for the service but before you file and you can still edit your return); you should see your non-deductible contribution on Line 1 and Line 14. If it's saying you don't qualify for a deduction I think that's fine and it won't ask you to elect it to be non-deductible it's assumed it's all non-deductible.

It helps to think of backdoor Roth as 2 separate transactions/steps - the contribution and the conversion. The conversion cannot be backdated to 2025 it is reported in the calendar year it is made, so this will be reported on your 2026 return and you will get a 1099-R next year for that. The 1099-R only reports the conversion. Your contribution will be reported on Form 5498 you will receive in May but doesn't stop you from filing. Your 2025 Form 8606 Line 14 will carry forward to 2026 Form 8606 Line 2 as the basis to cover the conversion.

You can also do a 2026 contribution and conversion this calendar year if you already know you don't qualify for a deductible or direct Roth contribution, if you do that you would end up reporting both years' conversions on your 2026 return against the combined basis from the 2025 and 2026 contributions. Or continue to do split-year backdoor and you'll have the basis carrying over from year to year via Form 8606. The main limit in the whole process is when you can make the non-deductible contribution and for how much; the conversion part is only limited by what is in your IRA.

Reposting the steps here which refers to reporting split year backdoors in the opening section

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/retirement-benefits/enter-backdoor-roth-ira-conversion/L7gGPjKVY_US_en_US

Re: Form 7217

No, you’re not missing anything—ProSeries doesn’t include Form 7217 yet, though it’s available in Intuit’s Business products like Lacerte and Intuit Tax Advisor. Since Form 7217 is a new IRS form released in December 2024, it hasn’t been added to every product line. ProSeries is still going through the rollout and approval process for this form.

You can download the form and attach it to the return as a PDF attachment. Here are the steps.

Download a fillable Form 7217 directly from the IRS website.

Fill it out manually.

In ProSeries, go to the Electronic Filing section.

Use the PDF Attachment feature to attach the completed Form 7217 to the return.

Select Form 7217 from the "Type" or "Link to" dropdown menu so the IRS's computers recognize what the attachment is.

Same scenario, @Jtroutman007 for me too. And when I printed the forms in the link, there’s no instructions of where to mail to, it’s essentially a state receipt. Also very frustrated to owe (a significant amount) despite filling 0 exemptions. How can the withholding be so off?

Does anyone have an answer for if you have to mail something after successfully e-filing and receiving notice that both federal and state were accepted?

Go to the Wages and Income section under Federal, TurboTax will ask "Who does this belong to," At that point you will select your spouse and assign the income to them in the system. Make sure you have selected Married Filing Jointly and added your spouse under My Info first.

The IRS asks for the spouses' AGI to verify individual identities.

This happens even though you filed a joint return.

You can use the same total AGI from line 11 of your 2024 tax return.

Since your return has not been fully processed by the IRS, you should wait before doing anything. It is possible that your return is being held for something related to the overtime deduction or something else entirely.

Either way, filing an amended return before your return has been processed would only delay the situation with the IRS. After you receive your original refund and you know the reason for the delay, then you can assess whether an amended return is needed.

I filed my taxes on the first date allowed 1/26/26 before the overtime input was added to Turbo Tax. Do I have to do an amendment? My return is currently being held for "verification" by the IRS and I'm wondering if that is the issue.

Re: Rental property converted to personal property

There are a couple of things you will need to do to convert the rental property to personal use.

First, edit the Property Profile and check the box that you converted the rental to personal use in 2025. Then go through the follow-up questions in that section. You will see a page asking about the number of days the property was rented for the year along with the number of personal days. Keep in mind that you should not enter any personal days after you converted the property. It is only asking if you used it personally while it was still being rented.

Then, go to the Assets section for the rental property. You will need to edit any assets being depreciated, including the rental property itself. There is a series of checkboxes at the top of the page titled Tell Us More About This Rental Asset. Check the box that says The item was sold, retired, stolen... Then you will be asked to enter the date that it was converted to personal use. This stops the depreciation of the asset on that date. Go through any and all assets that are being depreciated with the rental property in a similar manner.

Continue through the Rental Income and Expenses section to enter the details for the time that the property was a rental for 2025. You will need to prorate the mortgage interest and property taxes on your own and only enter the rental portion for the Schedule E. Then enter the personal portion in the deductions section for Schedule A. TurboTax does not prorate it for you since personal days should not be entered for the time period after the property stopped being a rental.

Be sure to keep copies of your depreciation report, AMT depreciation report, and Form 8582 (if applicable). You will need this information when the property is sold.

See the following TurboTax help article for more information and instructions:

If TurboTax rejects your driver's license

Omit any spaces/dashes

Try entering only the first three characters

Skip the field or leave it blank

this information is not required for federal filing

it is only necessary for specific states.

Issue RESOLVED!

Thank god I had the same issue and everyone is doing it right except one small step. When you click on add state and get back into the printing options youre not going to get the mail in instructions correctly. It will keep saying you filed electronically on your state returns. To fix this you find the page that says to change them from file to paper returns then click next and pick up where you left off. Once it takes you back through the steps keep clicking next like youre refilling it will take you back to the option to print the mail return with the proper personalized instructions you need. Hope this is clear. I dont remember exactly but basically get back to where you changed it to paper return and go through the process again
