Thankfully for federal returns exension is redundant if you need to make a payment.

On the IRS websity if you make any payment and label it "extension" on the drop down it automatically applies for an extension.

Click on the button "Print Required Forms" and follow the instructions to print and mail them.

@klang4442 The IRS requires that taxpayers mail Form 8283 (Noncash Charitable Contributions) if their total deduction for all noncash donations exceeds $500 in a single tax year. It is primarily required for donations of property, clothing, or household items valued over $500, or a single item valued over $5,000.

See the IRS Instructions for Form 8283 for more information. They state, "If you are electronically filing your tax return, you must include the Form 8283 data in the electronic submission. Enter all information requested by a line of the Form 8283 on the electronic Form 8283, except for the required signatures.

Caution: You must attach the completed Form 8283 with all the required signatures to your tax return, either as a PDF attachment when electronically filed, or mailed to the IRS with Form 8453."

I ended up buying a used laptop that ran Windows 11 and did install TurboTax 2025. I agree with you that the revised and new TurboTax interface that began in 2024, is not as easy to use as prior versions. It is ackward and clumsy to use especially if you make a mistake. It is definitely less intuitive compared to 2023 and earlier years. Sad, it seems like Intuit just started a new team to design the 2024 program.

Hello MonikaK1 - The question is not where to get the silver info. The question is where do we tell TurboTax that we have an ICHRA through our employer so that TurboTax doesn't automatically apply the premium tax credit? Or, where/how can we modify the forms so that we don't receive the premium tax credit??

Over all TT is very good but it is torture to file an extension in Turbotax Desktop for Windows.

-the instructions are wrong as best I can tell

-I can't even find a search under list topics

-the search button leads just lists the relevant federal dates when you type extend.

-NY department of taxation states on their website that you must electronically file an extension with your efile software if you are using one to file. Since that is impossible with TT desktop as far as I can tell I had to apply illegally on the NY website.

Kind of crazy if you ask me but I realize TT does their own thing.

As others before me, I am having the Canadian Registered Pension Income pop up under Retirement Plans and Social Security. Yes, I have tried using the trash can, not hitting continue, but navigating to a different section using the headers above the forms. No, it does not help. I have seen this "trick" repeated ad nauseum but have tried the "trick" at least a dozen times and no matter what, the Canadian Registered Pension Income never goes away.

I have to clear this as my partner has a security clearance and cannot be flagged as having out of US income. Has anyone found different solutions?

And shame on TurboTax for letting such bugs continue for months. They lobby to make sure we cannot do our taxes from home without them but then give us buggy products.

I borrowed money to an individual in 11-2020 with agreement to pay back in 1 year. I tried to contact individual 11-2021 and number was not in service. I tried several times, number in service 1-2022. I left several messages, no return phone calls received. 2-2022, I found out individual passed away in February. His estate went into probate and over the course of several years, it was finally finalized in 2025 with the lawyers being paid first and the rest of the creditors getting paid the crumbs. Am I able to write off in 2025 the amount the was not paid back as a bad debt. I hold all the legal letters at this time. My last one was sent on December 17, 2025. Any help appreciated.

Thank you @MarilynG1 for your response. I tried a new browser with clean cache and got the same behavior. I do think this is a bug which your engineering team needs to investigate ASAP since I'm stuck at this point. Thanks again.

Re: Turbotax would not load on my laptop that has window 10. I was able to enter my wife and my fed tax. How do I run my son's federal tax return???

Other posts here indicate you can't install/use Windows 10 US with the desktop version of TT25.

Of course, it's nonsense as they are apparently allowing Canadian users to use Windows 10 with TT25. Clearly there is no technical issue then.

You'll need to choose a different software and return/ask for a refund for your software.
