Re: what information do I need from koinly to add to investment section? what report do I upload?

The information from Koinly you will need is a 1099-DA, Form 8949 or your CSV transaction activity to upload into TurboTax. For TurboTax Online, you can import your crypto transactions directly from supported exchanges or manually enter the transactions. Alternatively, if Koinly provides a CSV file for your transactions, TurboTax Online allows uploads of CSV files for cryptocurrency.

If Koinly offers tax forms like 1099-DA and 8949 that summarize your cryptocurrency transactions, follow these steps:

To enter these in TurboTax Online:
1. You cannot directly import PDF forms like 1099-DA or 8949 into TurboTax Online.
2. Use the 8949 form summary from Koinly to manually enter your transactions in the Crypto section under Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
3. For the 1099-DA (digital asset sales), enter the details as reported manually under the same section.

This way, you ensure your crypto transactions are accurately reported either by manual entry in TurboTax Online or import in TurboTax Desktop.

You can find this on Line 31 on your Michigan 1040. f you are looking for the detailed breakdown of the taxes withheld by your employer (from your W-2 or 1099), you need to look at Schedule W. This form lists every employer’s FEIN, your wages, and the specific amount of Michigan Tax Withheld in Column E.

The total from Schedule W is what gets entered onto Line 31 of your MI-1040.

The withholding being off generally happens when tax laws change through the year, or when you do not earn the exact same amount every week or multiple jobs or change in filing status or loss of a previous credit. Your withholding is based on what you earn either weekly, biweekly or monthly (depending on how you are paid). If you are paid less one week and more the next, your week that you make less is not having as much withheld (if any) which can lead to underpayments. However, everyone's situation is different so without looking at your specific numbers it is impossible to say exactly why your withholdings are off.

You can always choose to have an additional amount withheld by completing a new W-4.

If you need to mail something, then TurboTax should tell you on the instructions page when you print your return. In general, there is nothing that needs mailed in after you e-file.

@Rookie1234 check Form 8606 in your return (on TT Desktop in Forms mode or PDF; with TT Online it will be in PDF for your return available after you've paid for the service but before you file and you can still edit your return); you should see your non-deductible contribution on Line 1 and Line 14. If it's saying you don't qualify for a deduction I think that's fine and it won't ask you to elect it to be non-deductible it's assumed it's all non-deductible.

It helps to think of backdoor Roth as 2 separate transactions/steps - the contribution and the conversion. The conversion cannot be backdated to 2025 it is reported in the calendar year it is made, so this will be reported on your 2026 return and you will get a 1099-R next year for that. The 1099-R only reports the conversion. Your contribution will be reported on Form 5498 you will receive in May but doesn't stop you from filing. Your 2025 Form 8606 Line 14 will carry forward to 2026 Form 8606 Line 2 as the basis to cover the conversion.

You can also do a 2026 contribution and conversion this calendar year if you already know you don't qualify for a deductible or direct Roth contribution, if you do that you would end up reporting both years' conversions on your 2026 return against the combined basis from the 2025 and 2026 contributions. Or continue to do split-year backdoor and you'll have the basis carrying over from year to year via Form 8606. The main limit in the whole process is when you can make the non-deductible contribution and for how much; the conversion part is only limited by what is in your IRA.

Reposting the steps here which refers to reporting split year backdoors in the opening section

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/retirement-benefits/enter-backdoor-roth-ira-conversion/L7gGPjKVY_US_en_US

Re: Form 7217

No, you’re not missing anything—ProSeries doesn’t include Form 7217 yet, though it’s available in Intuit’s Business products like Lacerte and Intuit Tax Advisor. Since Form 7217 is a new IRS form released in December 2024, it hasn’t been added to every product line. ProSeries is still going through the rollout and approval process for this form.

You can download the form and attach it to the return as a PDF attachment. Here are the steps.

Download a fillable Form 7217 directly from the IRS website.

Fill it out manually.

In ProSeries, go to the Electronic Filing section.

Use the PDF Attachment feature to attach the completed Form 7217 to the return.

Select Form 7217 from the "Type" or "Link to" dropdown menu so the IRS's computers recognize what the attachment is.

The IRS asks for the spouses' AGI to verify individual identities.

This happens even though you filed a joint return.

Since your return has not been fully processed by the IRS, you should wait before doing anything. It is possible that your return is being held for something related to the overtime deduction or something else entirely.

Either way, filing an amended return before your return has been processed would only delay the situation with the IRS. After you receive your original refund and you know the reason for the delay, then you can assess whether an amended return is needed.

I filed my taxes on the first date allowed 1/26/26 before the overtime input was added to Turbo Tax. Do I have to do an amendment? My return is currently being held for "verification" by the IRS and I'm wondering if that is the issue.
