Helpful TurboTax Articles:

What if I can't import my 1099?

How can I fix my 1099 import issue?

How do I import my 1099s?

How do I enter a large number of stock transactions in TurboTax?

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.

Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.

Toggle the switch to ON.

Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

What do I do when my data isn't imported into TurboTax Desktop even though it says successful import in my browser?

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.

Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.

Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

Thanks for sending your file for review. I went to Federal > Income > Income Summary. Then at the Income Topics page, Rental Properties and Royalties. The page opens to Your 2025 Rentals and Royalties Summary, which displays three different properties. I edited the first one, and the next page displays the Rental Categories. Under 'Assets' I edited, said 'Yes, go to my Asset Summary, and the page displayed the Asset Summary, containing the house and three 'Appliances' (you might want to edit the description to the actual appliance, like 'refrigerator', etc.) and also the house with the address as you did for the other two properties.

I went back and edited the second property, went to Assets and edited. The Asset Summary displayed only the property as an asset. I went back and edited the third property, and the Asset Summary shows the house, a water heater and a water filter. I'm posting screenshots the Rental and Royalty Summary and all three 'Asset Summaries'.

You could try disabling your anti-virus programs before signing into TurboTax Online, or use an incognito browser window to open the program. Let us know if you're still having an issue reviewing your assets for any of these properties.

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud. Make sure you take into account the information below.

You can find your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

Looking at line 11 on page 1 of your 2024 Form 1040

Requesting a transcript of your 2024 tax return from the IRS. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Please click on this TurboTax article for more information.

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.

Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).

Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.

Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2024 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter  0  for one of you).

Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

if this is reported on 1099-MISC go back to the questions after the 1099 it will ask if it was an "intent to earn money", say No to that and it will treat it as ordinary income on Schedule 1, not Schedule C.

They were basically of no help to me either.I finally figured out the only way around their software bug was to save a copy of the entire tax file, delete the entire Schedule C, save the file under a different name, reboot not only the program, but my computer, delete all my browser cache history, reboot my computer again, then re-enter all my Schedule C information.

Kept the old file just for reference, in case I needed some of the calculations that were done.

Hope that helps.

All I asked them to do (when I realized the problem wouldn’t get resolved by them), was for them to submit a trouble ticket to address the bug. Got ghosted after that.

If you are unable to find the option to add a dependent in TurboTax under "My Info" or "Household," it is likely because a previous question was answered in a way that suggests you have no dependents.

If you are using TurboTax Online:

Go to "My Info" in the left-hand menu.

Click "Edit" next to your own name to re-run the personal information interview.

Proceed through the screens until you reach the screen titled "About Your Household".

Answer "Yes" to the question "Do you have any dependents?". Click on Yes.

Enter the number of dependents, which will then prompt the system to allow you to add their specific details.

Click "Edit" next to "Dependents".

Answer "Yes" to the question "Do you have children or financially support another person?".

If you have already filed your tax return, you cannot add a dependent this way. You will need to amend your return.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:

Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.

Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.

Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.

Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."

Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.

Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

Hi since we're getting close to deadlines let me add a lot more detail.

I do understand how the tax needs to be done as you explained above but the software isn't doing it the way that you have explained unfortunately. The foreign tax credit is trying to take it as a deduction off my overall adjusted gross income not a foreign tax credit where it's applying the amount of already paid in taxes toward the tax burden I have in the US.

I've been a customer over 20 years with turbotaxes there anyway I can just talk to somebody question mark I think it would resolve this much quicker and I have tried calling the phone number but when I tell them I'm having a foreign tax credit it just tries to send me in the same circle I've already gone through period what I mean by that is I've already been through the turbotax software for about 4 or 5 hours adding stuff deleting stuff refreshing stuff trying to get the numbers to match the calculations I have according to the tax code but none of them come close in its over $10,000 difference. The best I can come up with is that it's forcing me down this alternative minimum tax thing which then only lets me do a deduction off from adjusted gross income not a tax credit I can't seem to get the software to let me do an offset to tax as opposed to a deduction from adjusted gross income please help thank you so so much

The entries for Box 14 Code I are for Section 199A QBI. This is typically reported on a separate Statement A that comes with Schedule K-1.

After you complete the box entries for the K-1, continue with the interview (this may be several screens later) until you see "We see you have Section 199A information."

Check the second box (income comes from dividends).

On the page "We need some information about your 199A income," enter the amount of REIT Dividends.

Continue until you return to the K-1 summary page.

Hello,

I am filing my 2025 federal and California tax returns using TurboTax Premium Online.

I received a Schedule K-1. My K-1 reports Box 19, Code C for distributed property. The K-1 tax package states that this was a complete liquidation related to the merger, not a section 751(b) sale or exchange, and that no cash or marketable securities were distributed as part of the merger. It also states that Form 7217 may be required and may affect my ability to e-file.

After I entered my K-1 information, TurboTax told me that Form 7217 is required, that TurboTax does not currently support this form, and that I would need to complete Form 7217 manually and file by mail.

However, at the final step, TurboTax still allowed me to e-file both my federal and California returns. I have now received emails confirming that both returns were accepted.

Can anyone please confirm what I should do next?

Since both e-files were accepted, do I still need to paper file anything?

If Form 7217 must still be submitted, should I mail only the federal return, or both the federal and California returns?

If a mailed filing is still required, would that replace the accepted e-filed returns, or would it be treated as an amendment or supplemental filing?

I want to make sure I handle this correctly and avoid filing duplicate returns.

Thank you.

I am planning to file the trust return as well. The Trust is now an irrevocable trust because my dad passed first. Mom passed in July, but the rental property is still under the trust. I just haven't moved it to my name yet, but I am the executor of the trust. I do have a bank account under the trust that collects the rent. I always have reported the income and expenses under my parents tax return, but I am unclear if I now have to file 7 months with my mom and then the other 5 months under the trust. But again, TT is not letting me split the depreciation. Do I just file everything under my mom's tax return even though she passed in July?
