How do I report this money? Is it considered income? https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/retirement/discussion/i-was-unemployed-in-2019-and-withdrew-100k-from-my-ira-to-cover-expenses-how-do-i-report-this-money/01/1719279#M111701 I had no employment income in 2019 and instead paid my expenses from money I have inherited. The money is divided between three accounts: an IRA, a supplemental IRA, and an account with funds earmarked for the future purchase of a home. During the year, I took two withdrawals of 50K each. I’m assuming that I must report these on my 2019 return, but I’m not sure where in TT to enter them. Are the withdrawals considered income, etc.? Also, I separately took a mandatory minimum distribution from my IRA, which I transferred to my supplemental IRA account. Does the fact that I transferred the distribution to another account make any difference in terms of how I report it? Any help regarding these questions would be greatly appreciated. I did not work in 2018. However, at the time, right after it was approved and before they began to process the payments, several family members urged me to file a tax return regardless (this was before they had the option for non filers I believe). I basically only reported the interest I earned from my bank account. I was not claimed as a dependent and I indicated that on my return. My return was accepted in late March. As of now, late August, I have not received a payment, and when I enter my info on Get My Payment, it says my payment status is unavailable either because it hasn't been processed (after 5 months?) or because I'm not eligible (which I should be). I am wondering what this is about, and if they're just slow for some reason and to wait, or if I should file for an appeal. However, I wouldn't even know where to submit it because I haven't received any mail from the IRS pertaining to this. I need the money because my hours this year were cut by a lot due to the virus, and I really don't know how to address this.
Mon, 31 Aug 2020 05:39:55 GMT https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/retirement/discussion/still-haven-t-gotten-stimulus-check/01/1714793#M111550 ciaraetheridge 2020-08-31T05:39:55Z Isn't there a problem with the Social Security Benefits Worksheet? I was unemployed in 2019 and withdrew 100K from my IRA to cover expenses. How do I report this money? Is it considered income?

I had no employment income in 2019 and instead paid my expenses from money I have inherited.

My wife's ex retired. She is getting a pension payout as part of the divorce settlement. Apparently, the retirement start date was July 2019, but it took until now, Sep 2020, for the paper work to complete and the payments to start. She received back pay as a lump sum in 2020. Since the payment was received in 2020, does it all go on the 2020 tax form? Or do I have to amend my 2019 to include the amount that would have been earned during that tax year? I've not received any tax forms yet for the pension.

I'd like to pay this penalty now - I don't have any official tax forms as of yet from my employer/plan administrator. I don't think I will quality for any exemptions, but here's my situation. Unemployed, on severance. Using the money to pay off some debt to get ahead of severance ending soon. If there's a way to make an advance payment, I'd like to do it as soon as possible.

Cares Act IRA Rollover of Stock Removed as Part of RMD

I rolled over a partial RMD of stock from my IRA account and returned to original account. Brokerage firm did not show the value of the rolled over stock as equal to th at of the distribution. Brokerage firm showed the value to be that of the stock on the day of the rollover. Therefore the rollover deposit does not equal the original dollar value deposited in the IRA. Brokerage firm only matched the number of shares originally withdrawn. In other words the rollover matches the number of shares but not the dollar value. Brokerage firm refuses to correct the the dollar amount of the rollover. Therefore I will not benefit from the Cares Act that allows rollovers in 2020. What is my recourse?

I am from Spain, I have been leaving in the USA for the last 5 years and the retirement plan corresponds to these 5 years. Now I am moving back to Spain and I want to know if it worth it to keep the retirement plan and then when I am retired check out the money from Spain (non-resident alien) or to withdraw the money now and pay the taxes when I am still USA resident alien.

STILL haven't gotten stimulus check

Hi, I have a question about the first stimulus check from earlier this year.

Isn't there a problem with the Social Security Benefits Worksheet? Line A from Box 5 already includes the Medicare premiums added in lines C-E, so these are doubled.

Box 5 on the SSA-1099 form is the total benefit minus any repaid benefits. Medicare premiums have not been deducted, so they should not be added to this total to arrive at the amount totaled in line 1 of the worksheet.

Converting dollar amount into withholding status

My wife and I are both about to retire. During retirement our income will be derived from two pensions, 401(k) distributions, and ordinary dividends from taxable investments. I am trying to determine the appropriate federal tax withholding status for each income stream. I have calculated a dollar amount that should be withheld from each, and I have verified these amounts are correct (or close enough) by creating a mock tax return using TurboTax 2019.

The problem is that the pension plans and the 401(k) will not allow me to provide them a specific dollar amount to withhold. They want me to provide a withholding status (M0, M1, etc.), and an additional dollar amount to be withheld if I desire. I don’t know how to accurately convert the dollar amount I have in mind for each income stream into a withholding status. Can anyone provide a method for doing this please? Thank you!

Pay estimated taxes on stock sales?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/retirement/discussion/pay-estimated-taxes-on-stock-sales/01/1712391#M111477

This year I have not earned income reported on a W2 where taxes are automatically withheld, but I've sold ~$130K in RSU stock from a previous employer. I've calculated the cost basis for those sales and the taxable profit is ~$95k. They are all long term sales so I calculated the taxes owed on that to be about $14k (95 * 0.15). Is that calculation correct?

There are other complications to my taxes and I know they can affect the overall total due, but if I wanted to just get ahead of that $14k due and avoid any penalties should I pay estimated taxes on that $14k? I'm ok over paying a little to avoid a huge bill next April.

I am considering taking out about $50k in 401k due to the fact that I lost my job in May. Now I did get a job shortly thereafter, but I am the only one that works, as my wife is a stay-at-home Mom, and while the salary is nice, we depend on commissions as well. Since leaving one job affected by Covid and starting the new one, commissions have been fewer and far between. The salary isn’t enough to cover the bills and wanting to pay off a few credit cards to lower the monthly bills. The two 401k’s I am looking to take from are past companies I had worked for. Neither took the Cares Act money and Voya is telling me that if they didn’t take the money then I won’t be eligible to get the 10% penalty waived. Is there any way as an individual affected by the pandemic that I can have the 10% fee waived when it comes tax time in 2021?

I just received my tax return, and it had an addition amount over what was expected to be received. This is the first time this has happened. Does anyone know why?

I have already received my payment from the CARES act, so it doesn’t pertain to that amount.

Okay, this is my question.

I've got an employer-sponsored retirement plan and Roth IRA.

Now, I want to roll over the whole fund (about $1,7000) of one plan to Roth IRA.

I've got two options: 20% Federal tax pay now, or pay later during the tax filing season next year.

Which is better for me? If I pay the tax later, does this taxable fund count as income in my adjusted gross income? Even this taxable fund is added to my income, I belong to the 12% tax bracket zone.

What do you think is the best solution for me?
