You have a problem in turbo tax. My Kansas taxable pension is not correct. It should not include my federal pension as taxable. How are you going to fix it?

Please make sure you have entered your Form CSA-1099-R completely with state information:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. On the "Who gave you a 1099-R?" screen select "Office of Personnel Management (CSA 1099-R) For U.S. Government Civil Service retiree annuity"
  5. Enter all information (verify state is entered)

When you go through the Kansas state interview you will see that TurboTax automatically calculated your Kansas pension deduction on the "Pension Deduction Summary" screen.

The software has a problem and is showing my CSA-1099R as taxable income in Kansas.  This is not correct and your response did nothing to resolve the problem.  I have entered the 1099R correctly.  Both my husband and are have CSA-1099R and it is only making his pension tax exempt in Kansas.

I cannot recreate the error in TurboTax, when entering two CSA-1099-R it shows the total amount as not taxable in Kansas.

You can try to delete the Forms, clear the cache, delete the cookies and then reenter the Forms.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. Delete both CSA-1099-R

If this doesn’t help it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2021" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

  1. On your menu bar at the very top, click "Online"
  2. Select "Send Tax File to Agent"
  3. Click "Send"
  4. The pop-up will have a token number
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

Or you can contact TurboTax support directly: What is the TurboTax phone number?

I just completed my Kansas state return in TurboTax Online, and I had the exact same issue. I entered my federal pension income correctly on my federal return (i.e., entered as CSA 1099R), but the Kansas state return did not subtract this amount. As a result, I'm going to have to file an amended Kansas return.

I hope the information I received by upgrading to Turbotax Live saves someone else the cost. It was a simple fix for me.  In Box 14 – State tax withheld enter $0.00 and in Box 15 – State enter Kansas.  That’s it.
