You can use the 1040A if the $30,000 you made in 2017 was only from wages, salaries,
tips, interest, ordinary dividends, capital gain distributions, taxable
scholarships and fellowship grants, pensions, annuities, IRAs, unemployment
compensation, Alaska Permanent Fund dividends, and taxable social security or
railroad retirement benefits.
If the $30,000 was for self-employment income you have to use TurboTax Online Self-Employed or TurboTax CD/Download Deluxe or higher.
