To make sure OH recognizes the $1,300 on the 1099-MISC as income (and qualifies for the OH joint filing credit), please follow these steps to check your entries on the federal side:

  1. Click Federal Taxes > Wages and Income > Other Common Income.
  2. Click the Start/Revisit box next to Form 1099-MISC.
  3. On the screen, Does one of these uncommon situations apply? mark None of these apply.
  4. On the next screen, Did the [business] involve work that's like [your husband's] main job? mark Yes and click Continue.
  5. When asked if you had any expenses related to the work, say NO (otherwise you'll have to upgrade to the Self-Employed edition.
Once you've checked the entries for the 1099-MISC on the federal side go into your OH return and go through the interview again.

In OH there is a new business credit, and you may qualify for it because the $1,300 is business income. his might work out better for you than the joint filing credit, but TurboTax will calculate both for you.

he was in private dental practice and this 1099 was for collections made on his behalf for services rendered before he retired from private practice.  he did not do the work in 2018, but was paid for it in 2018

I wonder if OH didn't recognize the 1099 as income -- was it a 1099-MISC?  If so, what box is the income reported in?
