The Maine state program handles this automatically.
The TurboTax forms for the state of Maine do NOT always automatically handle the Maine Pension Income Deduction. The best way to ensure it is covered in your final TurboTax forms (do this BEFORE you send in the forms) is to make sure this deduction is reflected on your TurboTax state 1040 Schedule 1 'Income Modifications' form, line 2d. I.e., look the forms over carefully before electronically accepting them. If this deduction isn't visibly included in Schedule 1 and you are eligible for it, be sure to ADD that deduction to the final form (by doing the work sheet for it located on the back of Schedule 1).
Basically, if the deduction isn't on Schedule 1 to begin with you won't get it. And neither TurboTax or the tax office for your state return will automatically insert or correct that kind of problem...you will need to file an ATF amendment to the return to do that.
