Why won't TT allow me to enter $300 for charitable contributions on line 10 of Form 1040 worksheet?

I am filing jointly and taking the standard deduction.  TT tells me that the amount is too large.

The entry is being treated as an override, but can be corrected.

Follow these steps:

  1. Enter Charitable contributions in the search box.
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer the questions in the interview.
    1. Only Money donations count toward the above-the-line deduction when taking the standard deduction.
  4. Complete the interview process by answering all donation questions and scrolling to the end of Deductions & Credits to select Wrap up tax breaks.
  5. Select Continue at Based on what you just told us, the Standard Deduction is best for you.
  6. At Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act, you will see your full cash contributions already input in the box. Do nothing to this cell. Select Continue and Continue.

This process will allow you to claim up to $300 for all taxpayers except married filing separate, who would each have a maximum of $150 without itemizing deductions in 2020.

For more information, see IRS Charitable Contributions Deductions.

Why is my donation amount to Catholic church too high?

The only explanation I've been able to come up with in test mode is that your income level is too high and thus phasing it out (disallowing it). If that is not the case, try re-entering the information and going through all the way to the end of the Federal Return so that the system is able to make all necessary calculations in full. See if that helps.
