Why was all of the ssa-1099 money added this year instead of addendums done for the money that was for prior years

It sounds like you haven't indicated in TurboTax that your HSA distributions were for qualified medical expenses.

To indicate in TurboTax that your HSA distributions were for qualified medical expenses, follow these steps:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • Type “1099-SA” in the search box and click the magnifying glass or Find
  • Click the link “Jump to 1099-SA
  • Step through the review questions 


Why was all of the ssa-1099 money added this year instead of addendums done for the money that was for prior years

If you received a Lump Sum payment for Social Security that includes payment for prior years, it still counts as income in the year that you receive it.

There is a special calculation that SOMETIMES lowers that tax (it taxes the previous year's payments at your previous year's tax rates), but that tax and income still show up on your current year tax return.  The program should walk you through that if it applies.
