Having the same problem on my Arkansas return. For over a decade I have taken the $6000 pension deduction in Turbo Tax. This year it gave me this $29 65 Special exemption. I could never get the option to use the 6000 deduction. It was weird. So I finally had no choice but to go into FORMS View and manually override the figure which I did and I removed the check in the block labeled 65 Special. I have had to override Turbo Tax a few times over the years, but it's been a while. Anyway, I went from a 47 refund with this 65 special exemption to a 275 refund when I manually entered the 6000 deduction. I keep hoping for an update to fix it. I'll give it about another week and then I'm filing.
In TurboTax, I am able to claim the $6,000 Pension Deduction. In the Arkansas state income tax return, see the screen Pension, 401K or Annuity Distributions.
At the screen Your Pension, Annuity, or IRA, I selected Employer sponsored pension plan.
I just made some changes as suggested by another expert on here and now my AR refund is up to 1100 bucks which is the exact amount I paid AR. LOL. I don't what to do. There was an update today finally, but it didn't correct this 6000 AR issue.
I don't think this 1100 dollars is right. I kept switching back and forth between Forms and Step by Step and saw in forms on the AR worksheet that it had checked the 65 Special. I unchecked that and it went back to 275 dollar refund. And what is strange is that every time I run error check TT shows it correct. They can't all be correct. I don't think I can take BOTH 65 special and 6000 dollar AR pension deduction. Confusing. I'll have to do more research before I transmit these forms. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The development team is working on a situation with the Arkansas tax return with regard to the $6000 pension deduction versus the age 65 special deduction. There is not a specific date when the update will be released, but please go through your AR return again after February 11th.

UPDATE: Saturday 02/07/2025: TurboTax HAS BEEN UPDATED for Arkansas returns. Just filed mine electronically.
One thing, it will take you back to those entries and you will have to right click on each one and UNDO the Override. But don't worry it leaves the correct entries that I entered.
I was able to e-file and I'm done. Hope this helps others. Go check now this Saturday morning.
