Since the Form 1099-R for tax year 2023 will not be issued to you until January or February 2024, how are you seeing retirement income on the 2023 tax return?
If you used the 2022 TurboTax online editions to complete and file your federal tax returns, when you started the 2023 return the information from the 2022 return transferred over to the 2023 tax return. However, no amounts from the 2022 return would flow to the 2023 return.
My question should have been, why is my total TAXABLE retirement income incorrect for 2023. But to answer your question, true forms have not been issued, but I have my income totals that I entered manually. It appears Turbotax is adding a 1/3 payment for a disaster distribution I received and paid off last year in 2022.
Update... I didn't see your post when I was posting. Looks like it's including another third. @dmertz
The implication is that on your 2022 tax return you chose to include the disaster income in three parts over three years but did repay the entire distribution before filing your 2022 tax return, perhaps because you repaid 1/3 or more of the distribution after filing your 2022 tax return.
Any amount that you repaid in 2022 after filing your 2022 tax return needs to be entered into 2023 TurboTax, but 2023 TurboTax needs future updates for you to be able to enter this amount. You'll just have to wait for that update before you can complete an accurate tax return. 2023 TurboTax presently provides a note to this effect when you proceed through the 1099-R section.
To clarify, I took the withdrawal in 2020, spread the taxable amount over 3 tax return years 2020, 2021 and 2022. All was accounted for with the filing of 2022 return. When I am entering my retirement income for 2023, TT is automatically adding a FOURTH taxable year for the distribution, even though I answer the question 'No' for needing to report a previous year's disaster withdrawal. It is adding to the Total Taxable Retirement Income, the Total Retirement is correct on the same display line.
I see. Your previous reply appeared to say that you received a disaster distribution in 2022. You'll still need to wait for updates to the online version of TurboTax to be able to visit the section where you can investigate what is going on.
