Why is my gross distribution amount entered instead of taxable amount

Because all distributions must be reported. Turbotax chose to show that in your Income Summary. That does not mean that it is the taxable amount, and it does not mean that it affects your return in any way.

You can preview the Form 1040 at any time for free to see how it's being handled.  Here's how:

With the return open, click on MY ACCOUNT at the top, then TOOLS.
    Then choose "View Tax Summary".
At the top of the Tax Summary screen there is a tab-link to "Preview Form 1040."
