Why do I have to let you disclose my tax return to enter my Roth IRA contributions for the year?
No, you do not have to grant access to your tax return for a third party, and I don't suggest you do that. Are you seeing this question in Mint perhaps?
In TurboTax, Roth IRA contributions don't have to be entered at all because they are made with after-tax dollars (no deduction), and don't show up at all on your tax return.
Entry in TurboTax is just a handy way to track your Roth IRA basis, but it is not required. If you want to enter to track the basis:
- In your open return, select My Account
- Tools
- Topic Search
- Type 'roth ira' in the box, then select GO
