Where do you include the taxable portion of a scholarship (room) on student's tax return (who also earned $3000 working), e.g. line 7 of 1040A and/or line 1 of Form 8615?

I'm completing my son's tax return and he earned a college scholarship to cover both tuition/expenses and room.  It is my understanding that tuition/expenses is non-taxable but room is taxable.  He also earned about $3000 working part-time. Should the room portion of the scholarship be included on Line 1 of Form 8615 as unearned income and also included on Line 7 (with his $3000) of Form 1040A?

Enter on line 7 of the tax form.
