To enter Social Security benefits paid and reported on SSA-1099 in TurboTax Online:

  • In the menu on the left, select Federal, then Income
  • Select Wages and income summary
  • Scroll down to "Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)
  • Click on Start or Edit
  • Enter the information from your SSA-1099

Still having problems. I never have the option to enter “Start or Edit” as directed. The only option I have is to select “Revisit” which just displays the same screen again.

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Did you get it yet?

IF not, there have been some folks, who for some strange reason, have to delete their SS Benefits Worksheet before the interview works correctly.

Instructions as to How that is done depends on whether you are using the "Online" browser-based software or the "Desktop" software.
