Where do I list a Ira Conversion to Roth in Turbo Tax?

To enter a conversion to a Roth is a two step process. You'll need to enter your 1099-R for withdrawing from an IRA and then your current year contributions to a Roth. After you enter your form 1099-R, be sure to answer the questions that follow carefully.

To enter your form 1099-R:

  1. Login and click Take me to my return
  2. Under 2017 Taxes on the left menu, select the Federal
  3. Select the Income tab along the top
  4. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security section
  5. Click Start/Update next to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099-R) and enter your form. Once you've done so, if you come back to this screen, you'll see it listed and can click Edit to review any entries.

To enter your current year contributions to a Roth:  Select Deductions & Credits tab >>> Scroll down to the  Retirement and Investments section >>> Click Start/Update next to the  Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions.

If you contributed in 2018, but your 1099-R is allocated to 2017, you'll need to report your contributions as made during 2018. As long as they were made within 60 days, they qualify.
