1099R's are issued by banks or financial institutions. Sometimes they can be imported into the tax software if you have the user ID and password for the account. Or they might make the 1099R available online for you to print or view. Usually they are available online before they are available for importing into tax software. It is often mid-February before you can import a 1099R.

To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.

You may also receive a 1099R from your employer if you are receiving a retirement benefit directly from the employer.
