Once your self-employment income is entered:
As you enter your earnings, you will see this on the screen "Your contributions":
"Select "Maximize" and we'll compute the maximum amount you can contribute to a Keogh or Traditional SEP in 2025."
TurboTax FAQ: Where do I enter my SEP IRA contributions?
The SEP IRA contribution for 2025 is 25% of eligible net employee compensation, up to $70,000.
Thank you for the reply. I was eventually able to access it by doing a search. The problem was that the prompt asked "DID you make a SEP IRA contribution...?" which I had not yet done as I was wanting Turbotax to calculate the max contribution allowed based on my self-employment income to tell me how much to contribute (which I have done in the past). Once I clicked 'No' I could not get back to that menu or get to the SEP IRA questions. SEP IRA is also not a category tab that can be clicked on (only Traditional and Roth IRA). I had to do a search "Jump to SEP IRA Contributions" which I got off a Reddit post that makes it clear that you need to type in "SEP IRA Contributions" with an 's' to get to the right place. It would be easier to navigate if the SEP IRA was reachable via a clickable tab (along with the Traditional and Roth IRA contributions) and/or if the prompt were changed to say "Have you made a contribution OR DO YOU PLAN TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION to a SEP IRA plan in 2025?" and especially if that menu did not close down if you accidentally click 'no' and then change your mind. Hope that feedback is helpful, and appreciate the response to my original question.
The response says to use a search function. Where is the search function? When I try to search - in other words, I click on Search and the magnifying glass, I get a totally useless "digital assistant" (AI chat that is never helpful). After going around and around, I entered this question:"Is there a search function on TurboTax?" The response: "Okay, I searched TurboTax Help for related answers and found the following: [list of unrelated topics]."
If you are using TurboTax Online or Mobile: Go to SEP IRA contributions,, use that direct link.
If you are using desktop, you can X out of the digital assistant and paste the search term in there:
SEP IRA contributions
The image below is where you can find it in desktop if you can't get the jump to link to work
Where do I enter my SEP IRA contributions?
Dawn,
I wish it worked that way. If you X out of the "Assistant," it takes you out of Search on the desktop.
I found the SEP-IRA worksheet on my own, by nosing around, but please tell somebody: The "Assistant" is terrible and a search function needs to be added back to the desktop.
Agreed on the search function. Not out of the assistant, I meant the 'sign in' box. When you click on search, the sign in to Intuit screen pops up, but if you close the sign in box, you can use that search box to get the Jump-to links - without assistant's ''help'' .
Are you on a Mac?
or are you signed in to the product TurboTax. If you are, maybe it is bypassing the sign in screen to opt out of the digital assistant. Try signing out if you are signed in and see if you can get to the regular desktop search, like in my screenshot above. That is the search box you want back, right?
To see if you are signed in, go to FILE in upper right, and right above the Exit button, it will say Sign in or tell you that you are already signed in. @user17703386460
In any case, glad you found the SEP IRA entry
How do you find this on the desktop version for mac. I'm not interested in accessing it through the search feature and would prefer to see it listed. I've been using TT for decades and this is now so buried and hard to find.
disregard my last message, I finally found the section!
how did you find this?
I found it on the Mac.
Menu Bar-Easy Step--> Search Topics.
type in SEP IRA and it should come up.
It really shouldn't be this difficult.
