Where can I imput my 1099-R

To enter the information from your 1099-R in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Federal > Wages & Income  [In TT Self-Employed:  Personal > Personal Income].
  2. Scroll down to the Retirement Plans and Social Security section and click on the Start/Revisit box next to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).
  3. If you've already entered one (or more) 1099-Rs, you will see a screen Your 1099-R Entries.  Click on the link Add Another 1099-R.
  4. If you haven't already entered a 1099-R, you will see the screen, Your 1099-R. Click Yes and then Continue.
  5. You can either import your 1099-R or click on the I'll type it in myself box.
  6. If you select to enter the information yourself, continue through the screens, answering the interview questions.

Where can I imput my 1099-R

To enter a 1099-R in Online TurboTax, here's a shortcut to the Retirement Income section:

  • Open your return, if not already open.
  • At the top click on the Search tab.
  • Enter the term 1099-R without quotes and then click the small magnifying glass icon.
  • Choose Jump to 1099-R.

When you get to the entry page, a screen "Lets import your tax information" may ask you to enter a bank/financial institution name or to click on a financial institution's logo. That is optional and only if you want to import it, and in order to import, the institution has to be an import partner with TurboTax.  If you don't want to import it, or if your institution doesn't participate, scroll down to the bottom right of that screen and choose "I'll type it in myself."   You'll then be able to enter the financial institution and the info from your 1099-R.
