When filing jointly and calculating the reduced 2019 Roth IRA contribution limit, is the calculated number per person or the total for both of you?

The reduced contribution limit would be per person instead of the total for you both combined.

When filing jointly and calculating the reduced 2019 Roth IRA contribution limit, is the calculated number per person or the total for both of you?

And each individual's separate contribution limit is based on AGI, which on an joint tax return is determined from your joint income and above-the-line deductions; a tax return has only one AGI.  To account for those who are married filing jointly generally having a higher AGI than other filers, for those married filing jointly the AGI threshold for determining eligibility to make a Roth contribution is substantially higher than for other filers.
