What is the "total of all payments and withholding" for 1099-G form? Which specific boxes do I add up to get the answer? Thanks!

You can find most of this information on your 2016 State tax return.  This is the total of all tax you paid to the state in 2016 including

• Amounts withheld from your 2016 W-2, 1099 , etc
• Estimated tax payments made for 2016
• Overpayment (refund) of 2015 state taxes applied to 2016 state taxes
• Any other payments made to the state which were considered  prepaid tax

The easiest way to get this amount is to look at your 2016 tax return and get all the tax paid in .   We can not see your information so I do not know what state you are in to give any more specific directions.

Hi Kerri, thanks for your response! I was in California for a few weeks in 2016. Is the answer to this question the "CA income tax withheld" on my state return? The "total of all taxes and withholding" to me means more than that, I interpret it as social security, medicare, federal and state withholdings on the 2016 CA state return. I'm not sure if its the first box I mentioned, or the total of all the others.

Yes all California state tax paid- in and withheld.  Just California tax.  Look at your California return if you still have it.  It will be the amount of all tax paid in.

Why wouldn't Turbo tax pick this up when it scanned my previous years taxes. it picked up most other things.
