What is the maximum social security tax withheld each year?

Is it 6.2% (to a max of $8240?) per employer/job or annually?

For 2019 the maximum amount of SS that can be withheld  per PERSON is   $8239.80

If one employer held out more than that, the employer has to correct it.  If the amount is over the maximum because you had more than one employer, the excess is added to your refund.
