Everyone files a Form 1040. There has not been a "short form" since tax year 2017.
A 1040 is the federal tax return form you prepare here to send to the IRS. If you start entering data in this software you are preparing a Form 1040. Please look at it so you will know what you are sending to the IRS:

You cannot file your state yet, since many state forms are not yet ready. And.....the state cannot accept your e-file until your federal Form 1040 has been accepted by the IRS. The IRS will not begin to accept returns until January 29.
I seem to recall that at least one state had a state short form of some kind.
You have to wait until after 25 January...because whatever state you are filing for...the forms are not expected to be ready in the software until after 25 January.
This is common for many state's software sets every year. DO NOT file before the first week in February, and run thru all the Q&A again before you do file.
I looked at it last night and it said till the 25th but when I logged on today it’s saying now the 31st?
If you believe that the IRS or any tax authority is omnipotent and omniscient you most likely also believe in the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and that President Reagan was wrong. He said “The top nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'”
@kelseyclairecree The dates for form availability are subject to change.
