No i am doing multiple years for a lump sum of social security and this box keeps popping up at the end and sais enter taxable social security for 2016 and then proceeds to do it for other 2 years and when i enter what 1099 sais for that year it makes me owe next to nothing and if i put 0 it sais i owe 4000 so im at a loss. I payed back almost $28000 back to long term but since i still owe them $6000 they said i wont get a tax for from them til its paid in full and i think i should be able to claim the money i paid them now since i laid them in 2019 shoupdnt i be able to claim that now so i dont owe so much?
If you received a SSA-1099 with lump sum payments that do not reflect amounts paid back, you should talk to them and find out what is going on. You can't alter a Federal reporting form, even if it's incorrect. You would need a corrected version.
