Two part question 1) My Mother's only income is social security. This is not counted as income right? 2) she owes back taxes. If i claim her will that impact my return?

If your mother's only income is SS, AND you are paying for over half her support, you may be able to claim her and get the $500 credit for other dependents. Her tax debt will have no effect on you.
