Turbotax is treating my civil service annuity distribution (reported on a1099-R form) as a retirement account from which an RMD is required. Is this a bug in Turbotax?

The taxable amount is less than the gross distribution. Is the difference considered to be a RMD from the amount that I originally contributed to my retirement plan when I was working?

No, it is a pension and you are 70 1/2, so it just wants to make sure you are taking out what you need to, which you are.

You will answer, "Yes this is RMD, All is RMD, and Yes I took all I was required to take, and then you are done with that part.

The taxable amount that is less than the gross, this difference is what you contributed while working for the U. S. Government.

Thank you for your Civil Service work.
