That is not a problem. The check box on the 1040 for your home being in the United States is specifically for the Earned Income Credit.

I went to the irs instructions for that box and it tells you to check it if you resided in the US for more than half the year. It further says that it "helps" determine earned income eligibility or other tax benefits. It's not intended to be an automatic eligibility box. Further later on in our 1040 SR we indeed did get senior credits so either way the box should be checked. Your interpretation of the instructions is incorrect.
