TT Will not recognizing my husband not the 1 w/HSA account through wife w/employer. & Wife's W-2 12a= DD & in Bx 12b W & Bx 14=PreTax Supp. Won't accept correction, Help!

First, make sure that you have the W-2s assigned to the correct spouse.

Code DD in box 12 is the amount of health insurance premiums paid for by the employer and the employee (for the HDHP). Code W is the amount of contributions to the HSA by the employer and the employee by means of payroll deduction. Because Box 14 entries are not rigorously defined by the IRS, box 14 entries could be anything.

When you begin the HSA interview (Federal->Deductions & Credits->Medical->HSA MSA Contributions), the first or second screen should be "Tell us about your health-related accounts in 2017" (see screenshot below).

If you filled the W-2s out correctly, then the HSA box for you should be checked, but not the one for your husband. Then, as you go through the HSA interview, it should ask you only about your HSA, not his (since he doesn't have one).

If you can't convince TurboTax that your husband doesn't have an HSA, you will want to delete all the HSA information and start over. To do that, please do the following:

1. make a copy of your W-2(s) (if you don't have the paper copies)

2. delete your W-2(s) (use the garbage can icon next to the W-2(s) on the Income screen

*** Desktop***

3. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form. Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.

*** Online ***

3. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form

4. delete form(s) 1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)

5. go back and re-add your W-2(s), preferably adding them manually

6. go back and redo the entire HSA interview.
