The help says that I should answer Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution? yes. I don't get this question. I get the one for all other years but not 2020.

I am trying to file for 2022 and pay taxes on the last 1/3 of my 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution.  "Help" gives directions to answer " Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?" as yes.  I don't get this question.  I get the question for 2022, 2021, 2019 and 2018 - but not for 2020.  What gives?

Please follow these steps to report the 3rd portion of the COVID distribution or any repayment:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2021 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

The distribution was not in 2021.  It was taken in 2020 and divide among three years for taxes.  So, it is not appropriate to answer "yes" to the 2021 question.  And, it skips from 2021 to 2019 - the question for 2020 is never asked.

Yes, this screen can be confusing but when you answer "Yes" to the "Did you take a 2021 Qualified Disaster Distribution?" screen it will open up and give you the option to select "This was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020". Selecting this will indicate that you are reporting the 3rd portion of the 2020 distribution.
