That is a personal question ... if you can afford to save some and save a bit on your taxes ... if the employer does some kind of matching then that would be a good reason ... if you put in a $ and they match the $ then you just doubled your money ... don't get an offer like that every day.

I've never heard of a 401k where the employer matches the dollars you put in .

It's probably not a 1 to 1 match.  Although maybe some employers do.  I got a 50% match up to 6%.  I put in 6% and they added 3%.
