Settlement in lawsuit distributed to all - owner of the fund? I planned to say it was a distribution and pay the taxes. Is this a hoax?

I am reporting it as a distribution from a mutual fund acct. that is part of my 401K
If they had sent it to the current provider; this would not have happened.  Is Merrill Lynch the current provider? He is the custodian of the funds.  If they had sent a list; they would have avoided all this agony.

I know how to handle it; except I cannot get around the "canned " program on Turbotax.

When I click on continue; I usually get the previous screen.  My only option seems to be to exit and submit the paper work myself since the distribution was due to an error by the  payer.

I cannot tell you how to report it in  TurboTax if you do not say what form it was reported to you on.  What "paper work"?

The paperwork is the forms that accompany and make it flow for the IRS.  A 1099-R was the forms I need to fill out but I could not get past the new "We are great " post following each entry.

The best answer is not  my concern.  I have several hundred dollars at stake and I refuse to

pay  Turbo tax more than last year.

Just enter the 1099-R form.

Easiest way is using the "Tax Tools" in the left margin then  the  "Tools" under it and select the "Topics Search" for 1099-R.

That should take to you to the 1099-R interview.

Personally I do  not use the online version with it's "hand holding" interview.  I prefer the desktop version without the "fluff".

1099-R shows my proceeds and the tax estimate on the 1099-R

I do not have the time or money .Thanks for your help; but I do not think this forum is the answer at 11:33.  Any answer should be posted under the question regardless of how long it has been posted.  I could not even see most of the replies.
