Selecting MA in box 15 of 1099R for MA pension doesn't prevent MA taxes from being assessed

Yes, I input MA in box 15 as you suggest, but it doesn't do anything. When I input the MA pension income in Box 1, the "MA Tax Due" box drops to a negative number (i.e. it's taxing the income). Yet, box 14 on the 1099R says "NON-TAXABLE". So if it's Non-taxable for state income, why is Turbotax taxing me in my state taxes.

You enter it as-is, but if it is eligible to not be taxed by MA, then you need to indicate so on one of the pages AFTER the main 1099-R form.   But if you select None of the Above...then it is taxable

See the following  (but this display is from a prior year, so selections may have changed somewhat)

Thank you for your detailed answer. That did the trick. The next screen after the one you posted also asks: "Was this distribution from a Qualified Plan?"  "Commonwealth of Massachusetts"  I'd selected the "Qualified Plan" button (vs. "Non qualified plan") on that screen assuming it would take care of it.  Your screen shot was worth its weight in gold. Many thanks.
