Seems the 2017 Turbotax software didn't properly calculate the pension spousal split & federal age amounts. How can a client recover the penalty/interest charges?

Forced fields included RRSP income for pension spousal split.  Forced fields also fed incorrect federal age amounts even though birth dates are correct.

I'm not sure what you mean by "forced fields." If you mean that you used the override function in TurboTax, that invalidates the accuracy guarantee. In that case there is no recovery of penalties and interest. An override can break the automatic calculations in unexpected ways.

You mentioned "a client." Are you a paid preparer? TurboTax cannot be used by paid preparers. It is for individuals to prepare their own tax returns. Intuit (the company that makes TurboTax) has three tax software product lines for professional preparers: ProSeries, Lacerte, and ProConnect Tax Online. You can find information about all three product lines at the following link.

No I didn't force any fields and it is my personal tax.  The pension income worksheet in 2017 fed line 129 {RRSP income} into the pension split amounts.  The 2016 software and 2018 calculated company pension income only in the calculation as required.  When I redid the tax return to match the reassessment I then needed to force that field to eliminate the line 129 feed.  I'll follow up with CRA since I can't be the only person who was reassessed one year later for an apparent software issue.

I didn't realize you are talking about a Canadian tax return until you mentioned CRA. (I should have recognized RRSP, but it didn't ring a bell.) This is the U.S. TurboTax AnswerXchange. Please post your question about your Canadian tax return in the Canada TurboTax AnswerXchange, at the following link.
