With respect to Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) annuity and using TurboTax (TT) Desktop, what is the fix for the misleading/erroneous directions for RMD as it isn't an IRA but an annuity drawn each month from OMB. While I understand as some in the TT community stated that every retirement annuity has an RMD (which in my case is the amount distributed by OMB every month and adjusted every year); I also saw one person write that TT had a software fix for this issue. What is the deal, are we going to get an update with this fix for TT 2025? More detailed guidance is needed.

I don’t know about any fix. But last year they did have problems entering RMD. After you enter the 1099R then say the whole amount is the RMD.
If you are the age required to take a IRA or 401K RMD it will ask you if a pension is the RMD. Say yes. Anything your pension pays you is considered to be the RMD. Traditional pensions automatically fulfill the rules of an RMD. So for the RMD question put in the same amount as box 1.
Thanks VolvoGirl,
Looking back when doing 2024 Taxes with Desktop TT this issue didn't arise. For 2024 my spouse's annuity was not treated by TT in this manner yet her RMD for other retirement investments were. Maybe looking back is only adding to the confusion. However, I understand your explanation and have seen and learned from others like yourself that treating the annuity as just another retirement investment is a logical and practical answer.
