Received 401k payout,(previous employer) August 2017. Federal income tax withheld at time of payout. Is this why I do not have to include it in my 2017 tax filings?

I did not receive a tax form from Prudential for filing for this payout for 2017 tax season.

If you received a payout of a 401K during the tax year, you should have gotten a 1099R.

The 1099R would show the amount of income tax withheld.

You need to contact the previous employer and/or the issuer of the payment to you and get the 1099R, as it needs to be reported on your return.

The taxes withheld may or may not be enough to cover taxes (any penalties for early withdrawal if applicable).
