Without knowing what you have entered on the return it is difficult to say why you are being asked to upgrade.
The Free online editions is for only very simple tax return that do not require any other forms or schedules beyond the Form 1040.
Look at your tax return and see if there is an amount entered on any line in either Schedule 1, Schedule 2 or Schedule 3.
If there is an amount, which Schedule and Line number?
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
No one can see your return but you. It should say. A common reason this year has been for excess SS. Even if W2 box 4 is only 1 cent too much because of rounding. Try leaving the cents off of box 4. Or maybe it thinks you made an excess 401K or IRA contribution. If you take the Standard Deduction you don't need to enter mortgage interest.
There are 2 free versions. In the regular Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?
