A 1099G for unemployment has to to be entered on your federal return.
State and local governments issue 1099G's for several reasons. Sometimes they do not need to be entered if you did not itemize deductions in the prior year. But unemployment 1099G's MUST be entered, no matter whether you itemized in the prior year or not.
If you received a 1099G for a state or local tax refund you do not have to put it on your federal return if you did not itemize, But unemployment is taxable on your federal return and you MUST enter your 1099G for unemployment. If you do not enter it on your federal return you will have a problem.
UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.
You will have to enter a 1099G that is issued by your state.
Some states will mail out the 1099G. Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site.
Enter your 1099G in Federal>Wages & Income>Unemployment
Go through the screens very carefully, making sure to enter any federal/state tax you had withheld from the unemployment.

How do I answer question 3 in the 1099 – G section of my Easy tax return regarding unemployment? What does (uncommon) mean and I also live in the State of Nevada. Question says: “Were you required to repay unemployment benefits (uncommon)?”
When I click on the? For more information the box “for more information” is BLANK!!!???? I did not have taxes withheld from most of my unemployment so how do I answer this question if I live in Nevada?????
So I answered Yes and Question 4 says: “Did you pay back any government unemployment from 2019 or earlier?” HOW/WHERE DO I FIND THIS INFO? I don’t know if I did or not! HELP PLEASE!
Here is what the help screen should have said:
Repaid Unemployment Compensation
You repaid unemployment compensation if you had to pay back unemployment benefits. This usually happens if you received benefits for a week in which you worked.
If you never had to give back some of the unemployment compensation that you received, you should answer 'No' to the question about repaying some of your benefits. If you are not sure, contact your state unemployment commission to ask if you ever repaid any of your unemployment.
