I worked 6 months and then retired. What do I enter for employment status?

The IRS only uses "occupation" for statistical purposes.  Your occupation has no effect on your tax due or refund.  You can enter whatever you want--enter your old job that provided your income for part of 2019, or enter "retired"--it will not matter.

Just enter Retired.  The IRS only uses the occupation for statistical purposes.

Enter your current status which is retired.
