Yes, the Form 1099-R is required to be entered on a tax return.
Once a tax return has been filed it cannot be changed, canceled or retrieved
You will have to wait for the IRS to start accepting or rejecting 2020 tax return on February 12, 2021
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS, it cannot be e-filed. The IRS will take up to 16 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ on amending a tax return originally completed and filed using the 2020 TurboTax online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/amending/help/how-do-i-amend-my-turbotax-online-return/01/27577
.......OR are you asking about actually "Attaching" a physical or PDF copy of it.
If you have "entered" its data into the retirement 1099-R section, that's all you needed to do for that one form...and you just have to keep your paper copy in case the IRS asks for it at some future date, if they have some questions about what you entered.
Yes I went through and included all the information from the 1099R I downloaded from the company and verified all of it, but towards the end of filing it told me to include a copy with my documents but never gave me the option to do so. I have a pdf saved of the form.
You only attach a W2 or 1099 if you mail your return. Did you efile? Maybe it thinks you are mailing it. What does your account say? Like Pending, Printed, Ready to Mail etc.
Are you sure you didn't select File by Mail? .............for that YOU print and YOU mail it all in yourself ..... with a copy of any forms showing tax withholding, including a 1099-R.
Not sure why that message would show otherwise . IF you really e-filed, there is no way to attach an actual 1099-R, and that has never been required,...not for an E-file.

the IRS has indicated they won't touch any files (accept/reject/process....nothing) until after ~12 February..
Yeah I had eFiled, I had thought it was weird to ask me to include a copy but not give me a place to put it, that helped clear the air haha. Thank you all for the responses!
I guess I won't be able to see if that notice occurs until I actually file my own taxes...but I wouldn't ever file before March...so maybe the text will be "improved" by then.
