I couldn’t finish filing because I’m being asked for a Form 8606-T for Nondeductible IRAs. My IRA is pulled directly out of my paycheck. Why am I being asked? Never was.

My IRA is employee based and not rolled over or withdrawn or any of the options they listed so I don’t know why I’m being asked for this form when none of the applicable options applied to me.

If your income has been rising, you may no longer be eligible for a deduction on IRA contributions.

That causes Form 8606 to appear.

Enter amounts shown in box 12 of your W-2 only in box 12 of TurboTax's W-2 form, nowhere else in TurboTax.  It seems likely that you mistakenly entered one of these amounts under Deductions & Credits and that mistaken entry needs to be removed.

First...make sure it truly is an IRA and not a 401k, 403b or 457.....

IF you're sure it's an IRA,  i.e. A couple state have instituted Auto-IRA programs for direct contributions from paychecks...BUT...even so..

If it truly is an IRA...You need to go back to the Deductions&Credits page in the software, and go thru the IRA Contributions section to enter the exact total $$ amount you contributed during the year, and whether it was to a ROTH IRA or Traditional IRA  (I seem to recall, the state Auto-IRA programs were all ROTH IRAs...but I could be wrong).

A qualified workplace plan, such as a 401(k) or 403B, is not an IRA. You should not enter any contributions in the IRA section unless you know for sure that you have made contributions to a private IRA that you own outside of any workplace plans.

Most likely, you do not have an IRA and you should remove those contributions from your return.

In the event that you did make contributions to a private IRA and you also have a workplace retirement plan, it is possible that your IRA contributions are not deductible due to your higher income level. In that case, you are required to have a form 8606 to keep track of the nondeductible contributions that you put into a regular deductible IRA.

My employer retirement account is a 403b. Oops. Does this mean I should have left those areas as zero on my deductions?

Oh! It is a 403b. So, I will remove the information from that section and mark it as zero. Thank you!
