I am a teacher and bought back a portion of a year for my retirement. Is the money that I sent the state to cover retirement deductible?

I took off a portion of the year.
I bought back my time through the state teacher retirement system.

probably not.

Contributions to a 401k or IRA are not deductible on a state return.

No it's not deductible now but the plan will keep track of it.  Then when you start taking distributions part of it will come out tax free.  It will be prorated.  My husband retired from the state and bought extra time.  So some of his retirement is not taxed.
