Program wants me to accept standard deduction while my contributions alone are $ 30,000 - and don't exceed 30% of line 7. bug in program??

To choose Itemized Deductions, enter "itemized deductions, choosing" in the Search window and click the "Jump to itemized deductions, choosing" link. (Note that the comma is necessary to get the link).

Once there, check the box near the bottom of that screen to "Change my deduction".  That will allow you to select Itemized Deductions.
