Our permanent resident is Michigan. I earn retirement income from Michigan. My wife is a travel nurse and she earned income in Texas and CA.

Should I file separate and how do I do that?? Tried to file jointly but have to pay fed, Mi & CA taxes. If i file separate how do i  separate her income from mine?

Filing separately generally produces no tax benefit so, imo, prepare a resident MI and a nonresident CA return. The Calif should only tax the nursing income.
