On 1040-SR, how do I get TurboTax to check this box: Check here if your main home, and your spouse’s if filing a joint return, was in the U.S. for more than half of 2025?

Currently, that box will be checked only if you are claiming and qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. You will still be able to file your tax return without this box being checked.

We will notify you if there are any changes made to the program that will enable you to check that box independently of the Earned Income Credit section.

A recent TurboTax update has resolved this issue, please make sure you have the latest updates.

Updates in TurboTax Online are automatic.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, please follow these steps:

Log-in to TurboTax Desktop
Select Online from the top left bar menu
Choose Check for Updates
Choose Ok
